CAIRO – 10 April 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, met on Thursday with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani.
During their discussions, Minister Abdelatty conveyed an oral message from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi addressing recent regional developments and highlighting Egypt's proactive efforts to de-escalate tensions. These efforts are being conducted in close coordination with various regional and international parties, with a specific emphasis on the role of Pakistan.
The Foreign Minister emphasized the urgent need for successful negotiations to solidify a lasting ceasefire. He noted that such progress is essential to creating a conducive environment for an agreement between the United States and Iran, which remains a primary goal for ending the current conflict.
Throughout the meeting, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's firm condemnation of Iran's unjustified targeting of the Gulf states, Iraq, and Jordan, stressing that all attacks on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Arab states must cease immediately.
Furthermore, the Foreign Minister condemned the Israeli aggression against Lebanon and underscored the necessity of respecting Lebanese unity and sovereignty.
He pointed out that the serious nature of current regional repercussions makes Arab solidarity and cooperation an absolute imperative. He maintained that relations between Arab nations should always be grounded in mutual respect, non-interference in internal affairs, and the peaceful resolution of disputes, particularly regarding the relationship between Iraq and its sisterly Gulf states.
Prime Minister al-Sudani expressed his deep appreciation for President El-Sisi’s wisdom and his commendable leadership in promoting regional security.
He asked the Minister to convey his personal greetings to the President, noting the significance of Abdelatty’s visit. The Prime Minister highlighted that the Minister is the first Arab or international foreign minister to visit Iraq since the escalation of military conflict began, marking a significant gesture of support.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commendation of the distinguished bilateral relations between the two brotherly nations. Both parties affirmed their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation across various fields to better serve the interests and aspirations of their respective peoples.
